Dr. Sonja Petersen (nee Neudörfer)

 

 


On this private homepage I would like to present to you my research and teaching activities in the field of History of Technology and Science.

I´m working as Akademische Rätin a.Z, at the Institut Wirkungsgeschichte der Technik (History of the Impact of Technology) at University of Stuttgart, Faculty of Humanities, Department of History and hold the editorship of the journal Technikgeschichte.

From October 2011 till March 2012 I worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Institute for History of Technology at Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD), Department of History and Social Science. From April 2011 till September 2011 I hold a deputy-professorship and from April 2010 till March 2011 I hold a guest-professorship for theories of culture and technology at Offenbach Acadamy of Art and Design (HFG) at the Department of Product Design

In July 2010 I obtained my PhD Degree (Dr. phil) from the Department of History and Social Science at TUD. The  PhD Thesis  "Vom "Schwachstarktastenkasten" und seinen Fabrikanten. Wissensräume im Klavierbau 1830-1930 (spaces od knowledge in the craft of german piano making 1830-1930)" was awarded the Conrad-Matschoß-Preis für Technikgeschichte des VDI 2011  (Award of the Association of German Engineers for the best work in the field of History of Technology) and the Preis der Georg-Agricola-Gesellschaft für Naturwissenscharts- und Technikgeschichte 2011 (Award of the Georg-Agricola-Society for History of Natural Science and History of Technology).

From 2006 to 2010 I was member of the DFG (German Research Foundation) Graduate School Topology of Technology at TUD. 2006 I completed my studies in history and politics for a teacher degree at TUD. As a Scholar-in-Residence I worked as researcher at Deutsches Museum Munich, as a visiting scientist at Polytechnic Insitute (NYU Poly) of New York University (USA) and at Naturvidenskabelige Fakultet, Institut for Videnskabsstudier at Århus Universitet, Denmark.

My current research interests are: history of  the gas-stations, interdisziplinary, history of technology and science, tacit knowledge and technology usage, the meaning of writing and drawing in the generation and acquisition of knowledge, objects as knowledge resource, companies as actors of technology development, history of crafts, history of  the gas-stations and oral history.
